Melinda is a 2018 graduate of George Washington University Law School where she was recognized as a distinguished leader and Jeanette A. Michael Scholar. While in law school, Melinda had the privilege of interning for The Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson, currently of the United States Supreme Court, and The Honorable Ronald Ellis of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, where she researched case law and drafted opinions and memorandums of law. Following graduation, Melinda served as an Assistant District Attorney at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. While there, she dedicated herself to thoughtful prosecution that emphasized fairness and justice for both victims and defendants, alternatives to incarceration, mental health services, and victim social services. She has handled hundreds of cases involving attempted murder, assault, sexual assault, firearms, technology-facilitated harassment, and so forth. She also served in the Kings County District Attorney’s office’s Racial Justice Committee, lending her voice on ways to improve the office’s efforts to review and recommend internal policies that contribute to fairer prosecutions.
Outside of her practice, Melinda is committed to empowering attorneys in professional and academic spaces as an executive board member of George Washington University Law School’s Association of Black Law Alumni, where she facilitates professional, academic, mentorship, and social programming for alumni and students. Melinda also serves on George Washington University Law School’s Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, where she co-chairs its affinity committee. She previously served as Vice President of Programming & Planning of the Sterling Johnson (NYC) Chapter of the National Black Prosecutors Association.
